Habitat Builds

About Habitat

Would it surprise you to learn that Habitat homes are purchased, not given away?

Well, it's true. Habitat for Humanity has a unique business model where we are able to buy land, build homes, and then sell those homes to low-income working families. These families undergo a comprehensive selection process, and once accepted they are provided with a no-interest mortgage that is tailored to family income.

For the past 25 years, Habitat for Humanity Manitoba has been mobilizing volunteers and community partners to build safe, decent, affordable housing for purchase. We work with people from all walks of life and strive to inspire hope through openness, respect, trust, fairness, patience, and honesty.

However, the success of Habitat for Humanity can only be achieved through collaboration. Incorporated in June of 1987, we built our first two homes in 1988. Over time, we have partnered with hundreds of generous corporations and sponsors, and we are striving to make 2012 the year we build a record-breaking 25 homes, at a minimum.

The Habitat Builds Campaign is a call back to the grassroots of Habitat for Humanity. In the beginning, we relied on donations and volunteer time from the individuals living in our community. We are asking the community to come together once again.

Together we can build change. One home at a time.
